Part of that 479 € price tag is no doubt a hefty license fee to Amazon for the Alexa integration. It used to have no direct competition from Raspberry Pi when first offered, but with the release of RPi4 offering both 2 and 4GB RAM options, there are now RPi-based competitive options to the Tinkerboard S, though you'd still need to add a DAC HAT (PCM only), or a USB connected DAC, and a nice case too, to have the same finished package offered there by Volumio. This is then an all-in-one solution, with no extra USB connected DAC necessary. One key advantage over RPi-based solutions is the DSD compatibility of the integrated daughter card DAC board, something currently available on RPi only by using a USB connected DAC. I always thought that looked like a really nice unit, and I do think ASUS makes very nice motherboards, it is likely over specified for use as an endpoint renderer (client), more ideal as a server. The Primo on Tinkerboard S is another of those ports, and it has additional function through an attached daughter card, including coaxial S/PDIF digital output, and 2-channel analog output. Volumio has been ported to run on other platforms besides Raspberry Pi, for instance I have it running nicely on the Korean made ODROID C2, while others have it running on Pine64, or Allo Sparky for example.

That one is not Raspberry Pi based (though certainly the Volumio software is best known as an RPi distro) but this particular unit is based on the ASUS Tinkerboard S single board computer. So that's $75 if you don't already own a license, but it is an excellent Android interface for Qobuz, just annoying that the app doesn't work in standalone fashion.

Not sure if Tidal has ever hinted at adding that kind of integration, but they should.Īnother option (the best in my opinion for Qobuz on macOS) is Audirvana, however their iOS/Android app does not operate standalone, you must first have a running instance of Audirvana on the desktop, and the iOS/Android app simply controls that desktop client. Qobuz has long claimed to be working on it, and there is even a beta version of it on their desktop app, but it simply doesn't work at all and so to me is little more than a placeholder at this point, there is nothing to actually beta test and report back on bugs etc. Of course we wouldn't need 3rd party apps for anything if Tidal and Qobuz just added the DLNA/UPnP integration to their own apps, that way people wouldn't need to learn a new interface.
